Stephanie lives in Switzerland and works in a full time job.
My program “From Zero to C1” helped her have a structured learning system guiding her step-by-step to improve her German and overcome the nervousness and insecurity of speaking.
A few weeks ago she passed her Goethe exam with a 90% score in the speaking part.
“The traditional classroom course was not really tailored to my level or my specific areas of improvement.”
Stephanie had already learned some German many years ago in the US. Once in Switzerland, she wanted to continue improving her German.
“Back in high school I had actually taken German as a course for 3 years, but 15 years later I had forgotten most of it. Upon moving to Switzerland, I signed up for a traditional classroom course, which met twice a week for a few months. It was intensive, but not really tailored to my level or my specific areas of improvement.”
“Working full time makes it challenging to find time to attend a regular course.”
The Swiss accent people speak and her full time job added an additional challenge to her learning.
“Living in Switzerland, where they speak a very strong dialect, it’s very difficult to get exposure to and learn true Hochdeutsch. Also, working full time makes it challenging to find time to attend a regular course.”
“I hated the idea of having to stay late after work every week for a 2 hour class.”
She was looking for a program that could fit into her busy working schedule and met her learning level.
“For me flexibility and personal attention were key. The traditional classroom setting often catered to various learning levels, which meant I wasn’t getting the most value for my time. I also hated the idea of having to stay late after work every week for a 2 hour class.”
“I wanted to improve my speaking skills, since this is where I have always been the most insecure and nervous.”
Her main goal was to improve her speaking skills and overcome her insecurity.
“I wanted to advance my German quickly through a structured program. Specifically I wanted to improve my speaking skills, since this is where I have always been the most insecure and nervous. “
“There have been several situations where I had to have entire conversations in German and was able to understand almost everything.”
Finally Stephanie managed to become more confident in everyday conversations and even pass her official B1 Goethe exam with a 90%+ score
“I feel much more confident in my daily life in Switzerland. I understand so much more and feel comfortable that I can communicate in everyday situations. There have been several situations where I had to have entire conversations in German and was able to understand almost everything.
A few weeks ago I passed my official B1 Goethe exam and ended up with 90% or higher in every portion of the exam.”
“I want to feel comfortable communicating in my adopted country.”
Of course, it took her some time, effort and dedication, but setting the right priority kept her motivated and focused.
“I’ve been working with Manuel’s program for approximately 10 months, first at a mid-A2 level. I progressed through the B1 module in about 6 months.
It is not easy and does take discipline to set aside a few hours every week. For me, learning German was a priority though, as I want to feel comfortable communicating in my adopted country. “
“I would often have the podcasts on in the background while cooking dinner or commuting.”
With the help of all the podcast resources of the course she could even learn while cooking dinner or commuting.
“I did not study every day; I usually set aside maybe 3 days a week where I would spend about an hour each day. Then on the weekend, I would spend another 2 hours. I would often have the podcasts on in the background while cooking dinner or commuting, so I don’t consider that actively studying, but it did help with learning.”
