Prabha is an Expat from India living in Frankfurt (Germany).
She’s a Sr. Software Developer working at Accenture.
She started my program “From Zero to C1 in 25 Minutes a Day” at A2.
After just 6 months she was ready to try the official B1 Goethe exam.
My Program offered her a structured learning system that she could easily integrate into her busy life.
Step-by-step she has been improving her German by developing a better understanding of grammar and sentence structure and growing her confidence in expressing herself when speaking.
A few months ago she passed the official B1 Goethe exam with a 92% score at Speaking:
- Reading: 60/100 (60%)
- Listening: 73/100 (73%)
- Writing: 88/100 (88%)
- Speaking: 92/100 (92%)
Here’s an interview I did with her so you can learn from her journey going through my program.
Let’s jump right into it.
Prabha, what did you try before starting with my program “From Zero to C1”?
Before joining “From Zero to C1”, I had attended classroom training. However, with my job it was going difficult day by day.
Then my aunty told me about Herr Professor’s free podcast lessons. She emailed me the link and I found that interesting and then I started listening to more podcast lessons. Then I enquired with Manuel and told him about my situation and requirements and eventually I joined the Herr Professor program.
What was your biggest challenge you faced with learning German?
With a job it was difficult to spend time and energy on learning but it was mandatory that I learn and speak German to continue with my job. Learning German at this age itself is a big challenge, be it is speaking, writing or understanding.
What kind of program were you looking for?
I was looking for a program which is convenient for me, where I can learn as per my time preference. No matter if I am on vacation or at the office or at home.
What was your goal when you started?
When I started, my goal was to build self confidence 1st in speaking/understanding German and of course nailing Goethe exam :)
What struck you the first time you came across my program?
When I started with Herr Professor’s Verb-Juggling lessons, somehow it gave me confidence that not only can I learn the way I want, but also what I want.
What was the big difference between my program and the way you learned German before?
The big difference between Herr Professor and other programs or rather the way I was learning is the structure of the program. Both grammar and vocabulary were well taken care of and going hand in hand. However, with other programs I would say either it is grammar 1st or vocabulary 1st.
What are some of the results you’ve achieved so far going through my program?
With “From Zero to C1” so far I have achieved self confidence in speaking. Now I am participating in German discussions, trying to talk to clients and teammates in German, of course not fluently, but I am sure in few months I can achieve that too. And of course, I achieved my first milestone, passing the official B1 Goethe exam.
How long did it take you to go from A2 to B1?
It took me about 6 months. During weekdays I used to spend 1-2 hrs, on weekends — 4-5 hrs, sometimes even more. Herr Professor will show you the path, but walking on it and how long you go is up to you.
How did you prepare for your B1 exam?
I purely used Herr Professor’s program. I went through the A2 and B1 Modules again while I was preparing for exam, also I used to participate in Herr Professor’s advanced Coaching Calls where I also practiced Schreiben and Sprechen.
How long did it take to prepare your B1 exam?
It took me 1 month or so, considering I had already done with A2/B1 program so it was a revision during exam preparation.
How did you stay focused and motivated through the program?
Since I had booked a date for the exam already and I had to pass it for my job, that was enough for me to be motivated and focused.
How did you manage to combine a full-time job and learning German on the side?
As I said, this program I can access from anywhere so whenever I had time at the office or in a bus, I used to learn on my mobile phone.
What was your biggest obstacle and how did you overcome it?
My biggest obstacle – how to learn fast, and “From Zero to C1” was the answer to it since it gave me a clear structured plan to progress step-by-step and including all the tools and resources necessary.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to learn German but finds it hard to find the time due to his/her busy life?
If you really want to learn German, you have to spend some time for it or you have to wait for some magic :)
